05/03: Head Over: Tom Fowlks

Ran across an amazing photographer with some quite striking prints for sale on Etsy: Tom Fowlks. With an impressive client list including the likes of Wallpaper & iD magazines it's a small but impressive sampling.
A few of our favorites:

(Pictured clockwise: perimeter road, winnipeg canada - $25; ray's 66, beaver utah - $25; white sands, new mexico - $25; swimming pool, gamboa, panama - $25)

01/03: 100 Abandoned Houses

We've always had an intrigue for abandoned houses & buildings. Growing up in Cleveland probably sparked and fueled, seeing as Cleveland can be as bleak as Detroit based photographer Kevin Bauman has documented with his documentary style project: 100 Abandoned Houses. Read more about the project here & take a look at some of our favorites:

Limited edition prints are available for purchase here with $10 of each order proceeds going toward a charity or non-profit organization doing positive work in Detroit & other cities around the country.
Found via the lovely sfgirlbybay, thank you!
While bumming around in the middle of nowhere Nebraska for a year stint we'd been eyeing a particular abandoned farm house & barn way off in the distance from a usual highway stretch. In the few weeks before we hauled out to the West coast, we finally figured out how to get back to it and did some exploring and photo documenting of our own. Meet elusive abandoned farm:

14/09: LIFE Historic Photo Archive!

Thanks to one of our favorite bloggers & fellow Etsy shops Aqua-Velvet, we just landed happily face first into a spectacular new (to us) image archive!
LIFE Historic Photo Archive hosted by Google could easily sap hours of your time, albeit rather enjoyably if you're as big a fan of such finds as we are:

Add "source:life" to any Google image search to search the LIFE photo archive.
Thanks Amy!

Stop by their shops here & here!

It's been absolutely hectic these past few weeks, so we were aching for a chance to finally get in some needed aimless wandering with the camera.
Snapped some randomness and are feeling refreshed for some more updates soon!
Here's a few of the goodies we got out of the afternoon:

Speaking of updates: we have a secret! We're starting a sister site/shop combo soon, so stayed tuned for details!

How super spectacular is this: The U.S. National Archives now has a Flickr account! From the looks of what they've added so far, we're expecting some great things!
There's a gas station in a bus, a hitchhiker & his dog, 7 year old newsies, and Nixon & Elvis chilling out...
Make sure to check out the DOCUMERICA series, where the EPA hired freelance photographers to document environmental issues & everyday life in the 70s. Here's some of our faves:
There's some unexpected (dead fowl & pot smokers) & the expected (albeit interesting) social issues.
Can't wait for some more additions!

Bright vibrant colors + modern lines & patterns + vintage advertising meets nautical flags + polaroids?
Equals too good to be true? Nope. Equals: Grant Hamilton, our new hero.
26 Olive Street's little heart swelled with such adoration for this guy after laying our eyes on these:

Prints are available for sale if you'd like to see these babies gracing your ways on a daily basis! Yes, please!

For all our Cleveland friends and readers, make sure you get a chance to stop over at the Friedlander exhibit before it's gone (3/1 - 5/31/09)! If you're not near Cleveland, you can grab a copy of the giant coffee table book for $45 over at the MoMA store here.

View additional works by Lee Friedlander through the following resources: Cleveland Museum of Art Exhibit Slideshow, MoMa's Collection, Artnet.com, & The Fraenkel Gallery.
If you like, check out a very good friend of mine over at Fourth Estate Photography who has done some amazing Friedlander-esque work of his own here.
Ciao!
